India indeed seems to be a beautiful mysterious place.
I grew up with several families in the USA that were originally from India. There fathers came over here to finish med school so that they could practice here in the US.
I started to understand a lot about the culture. It seems like all of my friends families really missed India and most of them wanted to return. I think the pace of life in the US is much different and not being around their traditions was hard for them.

It seems like all of these families became business owners - not just in the medical but all fields. Several of the sons and daughters ,of the parents originally from India, became pharmacists, hotel and small store owners, all seem to be very American. The one thing that I have noticed is that it seems like these Indian families even though they have been here for 25-30 years, have kept up their traditions- a lot more than others from other regions of the world.

I have never heard anyone really explain the social structure there. I believe a lot of the families I grew up with came from affluent families even in India. Is it true that if you are from the North it is different for you socially than if you are from the South? One of our friends son's Divyesh is a pharmacist and is going back to marry someone in India- his parents are not happy with his bride because she was born somewhere in the South of India. Why would they be upset with this? I am sure there is more to this and I am still considered an outsider-so nobody really explains any of this to me-- but I would like to understand.
